Recorded at Leavenworth and Polk in San Francisco 1987.
The drums are all mouth sound effects made into a plastic mic by Ted.
The backup vocals too. This was recorded on a Tascam 4 track. I think its perfect.
lyrics
Your bed's a coffin, nice and peaceful, almost impossible to get out of.
But you do, you walk in a stupor, cars on the streets seem as dazed as you. The nights of passion are over.
OK, here you go, back to normal, you just let it sink in. You're so used to being drunk on her habits, the pressure on your skin.
Those were nights of things coming through, those were nights of you holding on, those were nights without your head, those were nights of ridiculous passion.
You've had your sleep, you pick up speed, you go for 30 blocks, hardly looking. You just stare, and let things blur, and then you focus on that phone-booth there - ah, nights of passion.
And so you buckle up and you call her, your voice controlled and confident - "Is it OK if I come over?" "I'd really rather that you didn't."
Those were nights without the rest of the world, those were nights without your stupid job. Those were nights in the absence of pain. Those were nights of ridiculous things.
Those were nights of ridiculous passion - it seems she'd miss them, too.
