The ocean we forgot was humming a death-march,
I stalked that bad beach long after dark.
I kicked at the sand, sick and disgusted,
The friends that I feared, the sharks that I trusted.
The things that I need, I can't figure any more.
I stare at the waves, that rip up the shore
I wait until morning when the lights come on.
I could see all around me, there were things going on
Naked slaves played volleyball with Abraham Lincoln's head
He got punched out of bounds, he bounced off me and said,
"I've seen giant whales stomped on the beach
I've seen tiny birds, bits of whale in their beaks, singing,
One by one, one by one, one by one by one."

Dots bobbed on the ocean
Swaying to the hum
I strained concentrating but my eyes and ears stung
The local sun was cranking dead fish from the sea
And the head of Abe Lincoln was screaming at me:
"I've seen wild insects and mad bug priests
Stomping and a-buzzing, on the back of the beast, singing
One by one, one by one, one by one by one.
One by one, one by one, one by one by one."

I was sick of Abe's face and hearing him rave.
He was giving me a headache; I lobbed him back to the slaves.
I jogged a couple miles until my head cleared.
I found one of those friends that I used to fear.
We sharpened our spears, we waited 'til dark,
We dove into the ocean, and hunted for shark, singing:

One, by one, by one.
